      The idea came to start Flippin' For Fitness when I was 12 years old, it was discovered that I had a large tumor in my abdomen and I had to have surgery. My doctors were extremely impressed with how quickly I recovered and got back to my activities. This is when I first realized how important it is to stay physically active each day and to fuel our bodies with healthy foods. It allowed me to bounce back very quickly! Seeing so many children in the hospital really affected me though. After researching the necessity for physical fitness paired with healthy eating, I learned that lack of exercise is the norm for many growing children and that only one-quarter of children participate in the needed 60 minutes of activity every day.

      I knew that advocacy work was needed in this area and that if I could educate children at a young age about the benefits of taking care of their bodies the right way and always staying active, I could help to impact their future for the better and this became very important to me. I knew I had to do my part to motivate others and to help them learn how to lower their risk of heart disease, stroke, and even cancer, which are all the three main causes of death.
